Q: How many logs will I get in a net?

Our standard 8 Inch length log, which is the ideal size for most modern Log Burners (99%). Each of our nets contains approx 11 to 14 logs depending on individual log size.

Q. Why should I Burn Logs?

Burning Kiln Dried Logs is much more environmentally friendly than burning Fossil Fuels including Coal, Oil or Natural Gas. Using Kiln Dried logs is an excellent, sustainable source of energy. It’s happily almost completely carbon neutral. Every tree we fell, we plant three in its place, which will in-turn absorb carbon dioxide as it grows.

Q. Is it better to burn Softwood or Hardwood?

Both types of logs are great to burn. Generally, Hardwood will burn longer and hotter than the Softwood because it’s a more dense wood. Softwood is great too, but will generally burn through a little quicker. Softwood is great for the novice burner or those customers who struggle with lighting their fires.

Although Hardwood tends to be cost a little more. Longer burns means less filling up of your appliance, so the savings on using softwood over the Hardwood can be minimal.

Many of our customers buy a mix of Hardwood and Softwood because they like to start their fire on softwood and then move onto Hardwood.

Q: What’s the difference between a Kiln Dried, Seasoned and Unseasoned log?

Unseasoned logs are logs just cut from the tree and have a high moisture content above 45%. It is not recommended to burn these logs at this stage. A seasoned Log has been stored for 6 to 12 months which should have a moisture content between 20% – 45%. Kiln dried logs should have a moisture content below 15%. As a result, Kiln Dried logs will burn hotter and for longer.

Q: What will happen if my kiln dried Logs get rained on?

You Kiln Dried logs a dried from the centre out in our kilns and will take some time to become ‘Wet Through’ again, even if they appear so. A small amount of rain shouldn’t affect them providing they are not left outside for any significant period. If you do find that your logs become wet on the outside, ensure they are left undercover for a day or so and they should be back to their original state.

Q: Why do we sell in Cubic Metres instead on Tons?

Lower moisture contents mean that your logs weigh less and burn better. So we take a lot of care to ensure that your kiln dried logs have a moisture content below 15%. They therefore weigh a lot less than the same volume of part seasoned logs. All in all, buying in volume will work out a lot cheaper and you will receive more logs than buying in weight.

Q: What’s the difference between Propane and Butane?

Propane (Red Bottles) – Used for Off Grid Heating, LPG Gas Cookers and other Commercial Applications.

Butane (Blue Bottles) – Used in the home and garden for portable gas heaters, Patio Heaters and BBQ’s.
