In short, Woodsure offers quality assurance to customers buying high quality wood fuels that are dried to less than 18% moisture content.
The Benefits of Ready to Burn Wood Fuels
The Ready to Burn Scheme is a mark of trust that signals to customers the wood fuel they are buying is dry. Under the new Air Quality (Domestic Solid Fuels Standards) (England) Regulations 2020 that will apply in England from 1 May 2021, wood fuel sold in volumes under 2m3 will need to be certified as Ready to Burn.
The new regulations aim to prevent harmful pollution from domestic burning of all solid fuels by ensuring wood sold in volumes of under 2m3 is certified as having a moisture content of 20% or less. Customers buying loose wood in quantities of 2m3 or more must be given advice on how to store and season the fuel, this will give them confidence that the wood they are burning is suitably dry before use.
Burning kiln dried firewood means your wood burning stove can reach optimum efficiency faster. Your stove will output more heat using fewer logs (than seasoned wood) delivering better value for money, lower carbon emissions, less smoke (which helps air quality and has a lower sulphur content) and fewer dangerous deposits inside your flue.
What Does the Ready to Burn Certification Mark Look Like?
The Ready to Burn quality certification scheme identifier is an orange circle featuring a red flame and the words 'Ready to Burn' written in white in the centre of the circle.
In order to ensure customers can trust woodsure certified suppliers, the scheme's logo is displayed alongside a certificate number and the supplier's name. For example, Logan's Log's certificate number is WS463/00001. We supply reliable high quality wood fuels (and other types of solid fuels) to customers in Cornwall and Plymouth.
Do Not Burn Wet Wood
Burning wet wood is harmful to the environment and dangerous too. By purchasing kiln dried firewood from a member of a woodfuel quality assurance scheme such as the Ready to Burn scheme you can be sure what you buy is a reliable wood fuel that is safe to burn in a wood burning stove.
Burning wet wood does not enable your wood burning stove to reach optimum efficiency.
Any wood with more than 18% moisture content does not achieve certification under the Ready to Burn scheme and cannot be sold as such. As a registered wood fuel supplier under the scheme, we regularly test our wood fuels to ensure they meet this requirement.
It is possible to buy wet or 'seasoned wood' of a lower wood fuel quality locally. Seasoned wood is aged but not dried and will have a much higher moisture content than kiln dried wood. Customers are advised to make an informed choice when purchasing firewood from suppliers, for reliable high quality wood is only available from Woodsure registered suppliers such as Logan's Logs.
Other Products Under the Woodsure Certification Scheme
Kiln dried firewood is the main product covered by the woodsure standard but other products are also covered. Be sure to review product labelling for more information. Products we sell that are also covered by the scheme include manufactured solid fuels such as coal, wood pellets (for boiler feed systems), briquettes (heat logs) and kindling.
Kiln Dried Firewood Products
Woodfuel users will find a range of firewood products on this website with the right moisture content (less than 18%) and sold under the Ready to Burn certification scheme. Our wood fuel products come from sustainably managed woodland further adding to reassurance for consumers. We also cut all of our logs to 10inches which is the right size for most multi fuel stoves.
