Product Description

UK Grown Kiln Dried Ash Logs and Beech Logs Mix

Buy kiln dried ash logs and beech mix for use in wood burning stoves with a moisture content guaranteed lower than 18%. This loose load comes in cubic metres of logs delivered loose by tipper lorry at your address.

We have blended 50/50 kiln dried ash firewood with kiln dried beech firewood from UK managed forest. Both Ash logs and Beech Logs have a high heat output with minimal smoke and a clean burn. Ideal for open fires, log burners and wood burning appliances such as stoves, chimneas, fire pits and pizza ovens.

Always choose kiln dried wood over seasoned logs for consistent quality, easy ignition and long lasting heat.

Receiving Delivery of a Loose Load of Logs

Loose loads are offered for customers who have plenty of space to store and receive delivery of logs. We need a suitable place to tip your logs from our tipper lorry and you will need suitable log storage too. During the winter particularly the ground is wet so logs must not be stored on grass or in contact with the ground. Please protect your logs from the elements too. For more information about log storage, see our guide on how to store kiln dried logs.

Why have we mixed Ash and Beech together?

Ash and Beech are two of the best hardwoods for domestic firewood. When combined, they complement each other to create a well-balanced burning experience that suits most wood burning appliances.

A Balanced Burn and Better Performance

Using a 50/50 mix of kiln dried Ash firewood and Beech offers several practical benefits:

  • Reliable heat output: Kiln dried Ash logs are known for catching and burning steadily, while Beech burns hot and long, giving you a strong, lasting heat.

  • Consistent moisture and easy ignition: Both species kiln dry very well, meaning they light quickly and burn cleanly with minimal smoke.

  • More stable fire: Beech's density helps maintain a longer burn, while kiln dried Ash firewood supports quicker ignition and flame stability.

  • Suitable for all appliances: The mix performs beautifully in stoves, open fireplaces, chimineas, pizza ovens and fire pits.

  • Sustainable UK sourcing: Both species come from managed British woodlands, offering a lower carbon footprint than imported kiln dried logs.

Benefits of Kiln Dried Logs

Kiln dried logs are the best way to get warm affordably at home or in your business. Kiln dried ash logs have a higher heat output, produces minimal smoke and burns for longer providing a steady heat.

Seasoned logs, or worse unseasoned wood, are bad for the planet because most of the energy created in burning a wet log is used in evaporating moisture. This means your fire burns cooler, your indoor air quality is affected by increased smoke output and you end up using more logs to get warm.

If you own a wood burning stove, they are designed to burn kiln dried wood with air circulation technology guaranteed to give you cozy evenings by the fire. It is essential that all kiln dried ash logs are guaranteed (like ours are) to be less than 18% moisture. Only then are they classified 'kiln dried'.

Burning kiln dried ash logs you will also notice that your stove glass does not fog up or discolour. This is again thanks to the low moisture content.

Ash Logs and Beech Logs are Hardwood Firewood

Denser woods like hardwoods burn longer and hotter. It's that simple. Softwoods such as pine grow faster, are less dense and therefore burn really fast giving off much less heat. When we combine kiln dried with hardwood we get excellent value for money. Kiln dried ash logs are widely regarded as the only sensible way to buy Ash logs.

We stock ash and beech mixes in a variety of forms, loose load, barrow bag, by the crate or 22 litre net. All of these products are available for delivery anywhere in Cornwall and Plymouth or you can collect your order from The Woodyard during opening hours.

Firewood Help Topics

We have written a number of helpful articles aimed at helping you to get the most out of your firewood.

Hardwood Log Information

Our Hardwood is harvested from very large forests, under strict control by the Forestry Commission or other governing body depending on where we buy the Hardwood from, because Hardwood trees are natural they will vary in size, shape, even the bark may vary in looks, some trees will be smaller than others, some trees will be larger, the odd log might be a strange shape, unfortunately we cannot guarantee all logs will be the same size, you will get smaller logs and larger in your delivery, we check every load visibly to ensure you get the highest quality Kiln Dried Logs available.

Because the logs are Kiln Dried the bark will fall off quite a few logs, this is perfectly normal, the bark will burn as good as the wood, in most cases the bark will be used instead of kindling sticks or burnt on its own. Bark does form part of the delivery.

We do a hand-picked log service where any loose bark is removed and any larger logs will be removed, each log in your delivery will be picked out and if it has loose bark, it will be removed, if the log is larger than the majority, it will be removed and replaced with similar sized logs, this is extremely time consuming and will require a quotation, we will be delighted to help, please call our customer service team on 0800 8021 223 for a quotation for this service.

All our Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs are harvested and go through a careful kiln drying process, this involves continuous moisture and temperature checking by experienced staff.

This ensures that your Logs are in the best condition when they leave our premises in Wadebridge, Cornwall, our Kiln Dried Logs are continuously checked by our quality control process which ensures they are dried to below 18% moisture, most of our logs have an average of 15%.

Please don't be alarmed if you see the bark coming away from the log, this means the Kiln Dried Log has a lower moisture level, this bark is great for lighting your fire, our customers really like this as they don’t need kindling.

Our Kiln Dried Logs will vary in size, they are a natural product, trees all grow differently, most have a different diameter, so then the Log is split they will vary in size, you will have some larger logs as well as smaller ones, the smaller Logs are great to get your fire up to temperature quickly then you can put the larger Logs on for a longer burn, you may also notice that the bark will look slightly different from others, this is perfectly normal as they are a natural product and like us, they all grow and mature differently.

Getting the Fire Started

Kindling & Firelighters

Choose from our range of affordable firelighters and kindling (sticks). Use these to build your fire before adding kiln dried logs.

Products like Wood Wool Firelighters are designed to ignite very easily when presented with a burning match and softwood kindling combusts easily in the early stages of your fire creating the necessary heat to burn larger hardwood logs later on. Our kiln dried logs are perfect for use in wood burners, providing a clean and efficient burn.
