Are Heat Logs Cheaper to Burn Than Kiln Dried Logs?
Heat logs can be very cost-effective compared with kiln-dried firewood, but whether they are actually cheaper to burn depends on the price you pay and the amount of usable heat produced by each fuel.
Because heat logs are made from very dry, densely compressed wood, they contain a lot of energy for their weight. Very little of that energy is wasted evaporating moisture, so they can provide an efficient and consistent heat output.
However, comparing the price of a pack of heat logs with a bag of kiln-dried logs does not necessarily tell you which offers better value. Firewood is often sold by volume, while heat logs are commonly sold by weight. A better comparison is the cost per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of heat.
Kiln-dried logs also have advantages: they provide a more traditional fire, attractive flames and, depending on how and where you buy them, can be extremely economical. Many customers therefore use heat logs alongside kiln-dried firewood, using heat logs when they want a quick, dependable boost of heat.
