What’s the best value way to buy firewood?
The best value is almost always buying in bulk, as the price per cubic metre drops the more you buy.
Small nets and bags might seem cheaper upfront, but they work out far more expensive. It can take 40–50 small bags to equal a cubic metre, which is why they cost significantly more overall.
Bulk options like barrow bags, bulk bags, or loose loads give much better value because you’re paying less per volume and reducing delivery costs.
- Most expensive: Nets / small bags
- Mid-range: Barrow bags / handybags
- Best value: Bulk bags or loose loads
What really affects value
It’s not just about price, it’s about what you actually get:
- Volume: Logs are sold loose, so more air = less wood
- Moisture: Wet logs are cheaper but give less heat and waste money. We only sell Woodsure Approved Ready to Burn Kiln Dried Firewood.
- Quantity: Bigger orders reduce delivery cost per load
Buying more at once spreads the delivery cost and lowers the price per cubic metre, which is why bulk buying is usually the cheapest option.
If you’ve got the space and use your fire regularly, bulk bags (or larger) are the best value by a clear margin. If you only burn occasionally or have limited storage, smaller bags are more convenient, but you’ll pay more for it.
