Can You Burn Heat Logs on an Open Fire?

Yes, many heat logs can be burned on an open fire, providing a convenient alternative to traditional firewood. Because they are made from compressed, very dry wood, heat logs light readily and can produce a strong, consistent heat.

Heat logs such as Woodlets are very dense and may give off more concentrated heat than ordinary logs, so avoid putting too many on the fire at once. Start with a well-established fire and add one or two heat logs at a time as required.

Some types of heat log can expand or break apart as they burn, which is particularly important to consider with an open fireplace. Always use a suitable fireguard and make sure burning material cannot roll or fall out of the fireplace.

Always check the instructions for the particular heat logs you are using, as well as any guidance for your fireplace or chimney.

Getting the Fire Started

Kindling & Firelighters

Choose from our range of affordable firelighters and kindling (sticks). Use these to build your fire before adding kiln dried logs.

Products like Wood Wool Firelighters are designed to ignite very easily when presented with a burning match and softwood kindling combusts easily in the early stages of your fire creating the necessary heat to burn larger hardwood logs later on. Our kiln dried logs are perfect for use in wood burners, providing a clean and efficient burn.

Logans does exactly what it says on the truck - supply kiln dried logs. We arranged for the logs to be stacked on delivery - which was done very neatly indeed. Guess where I'll go for my next kiln dried log delivery ?
